ALL EYES ON THE CROWN

One year after the coronation of Francisco Sanchez Ruiz as the 2023 World Pool Champion, it is time for the Spaniard to defend his title against the world’s best players of the World Nineball Tour. And this year’s edition will probably make it extremely difficult for him to win again as his competitors are more motivated than ever before.

The World Pool Championship is the Holy Grail for pool players and its winners are sports legends: Earl Strickland, Efren Reyes, Johnny Archer, Thorsten Hohmann, just to name a few. But this year, the stakes are even higher with a record prize money of $1,000,000. This includes a never seen before prize of $250,000 for the winner!

With the Top 100 players who have qualified for the event and the 28 wildcard entries, the list of participants has never been so impressive. Among them, you have more than 10 World Champions including 2-times winner Albin Ouschan, Shane van Boening, the latest addition to the BCA Hall of Fame, Joshua Filler, Fedor Gorst, Ko Pin Yi, Darren Appleton.

The battle promises to be fierce between the one-time World Champions’ quests to join the illustrious club of multiple-time World Champions. And, of course, the unbearable desire for all the other players to win their first World title. The recent UK Open winner Robbie Capito is probably among the players who believes in his chances to lift the crown for the first time. Jayson Shaw, the next Mosconi Cup playing captain for Team Europe and currently 5th at the World Rankings, is also dreaming about it.

As for all the other World Nineball Tour events, Aramith, the World’s leading billiard ball brand, and Iwan Simonis, the World’s leading billiard cloth brand, will be the official and exclusive cloth and ball suppliers to the World Pool Championship. The Aramith Tournament Black ball set on the Simonis 860 shark grey cloth have made all these Matchroom events particularly recognizable all around the world.

People will be able to watch the World Pool Championship between June 3-8 on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and broadcasters around the world.
